Although they’ve served us well in the past, halogen light bulbs have seen their best days and will soon be obsolete. They would, that is, if it wasn’t for manufacturers in the car industry still selling models that use halogen lights.

We get it, they’re more cost-effective and they serve their purpose well enough. However, compared to high-density discharge lights, also known as Xenon HID or HID lights, they can’t compete when it comes to illumination.

The thing that really makes HID lighting standout though is not just the illuminating power, but the ability to produce a whiter light, that looks more like true sunlight. Compare that to the yellowy warm glow of halogen light bulbs and you’ll see why so much fuss is made about HID headlights.

It’s not just HID lights that offer a high-performance alternative to halogen bulbs though, as LED lighting in all its shapes and forms has continued to rise. What’s more, because the technology has been developed LEDs are not only matching the ability of HID, but in some cases outclassing it.

Lexus and Audi were the first to introduce the use of LED headlights. Others were slow to follow due to technical glitches, and that’s where the mod industry stepped in and pushed things forward. which brings us to the Opt7 LED Headlight Kit.

About Opt7

Opt7 is not a new name to the industry and has been designing and manufacturing lighting solutions for more than 20 years and have been producing them for vehicles since 2006. So, they know a thing or two about LED conversion kits and to add some sweet sweet cherries on top, they are an American company.

Introducing the Opt7 Fluxbeam LED Headlight Kit

One of the great things about this kit is that it is so incredibly easy to install. Opt7 have clearly gone to a lot of trouble to make it as simple as possible and we are happy to say that the company’s claims of a plug’n’play installation are truthful. You just need to take out the old bulbs and connect the new ones up and hey presto, let there be light.

The length of the LED is similar to a traditional sized halogen version and the fan heatsink protrude just over an inch out the back, making this ideal for the majority of cars. You don’t need to worry about connecting the LED driver or any of that malarkey as it comes pre-connected.

You simply cannot mention LEDs in the same discussion as HID lighting fixtures without discussing their superior lifespan. These Opt7 have an exceptionally long lifespan at more than 50,000 hours. So even if you ran the lights continuously every day, they would illuminate for a total of 6 years.

Therefore, in normal usage in your car, it is reasonable to expect these to outlast your car.

That brings us back to the previously mentioned heatsink. This is what makes the longer lifespan possible. The aluminium heatsink is coupled with a dual-speed fan and this works as a cooling system. The fan has near-silent operation and is still capable of speeds of over 7,000RPM

Furthermore, as it has a certified IP67 rating, it is completely water and dust resistant.

What about the actual lighting, we hear you say. Well the CREE LED lightbulbs used in this kit are some of the best available at the moment and these particular bulbs produce a very clear, natural white light with a classy blue tint to it. As there is the option of low and standard light, you can either have the light emitting light with a brightness of 4200 lumens using 40 Watts of power or at lower rate of 3500 from 30 watts of power.

What About the Price?

Although the OPT7 Fluxbeam kit is a lot pricier than some of the other LED and HID headlight bulb out there, that seemingly provide the same level of illumination, you need to make a choice.

The choice is whether you go with a company that has the background and strong industry experience  of Opt7 or you throw caution to the wind and try a bargain-priced item made by a company with less expertise and that are therefore, less reputable?

Only you can make that decision.

The Potential Downsides

Obviously, every product has its negative points and unfortunately, this great LED headlight kit from Opt7 is no different. There have been some issues customers have had with the installation not being exactly right for their car’s lights. This has meant that the dual-lighting function has not operated properly.

However, this is a rare occurrence, it seems and OPT7 have provided an almost cast-iron solution.

Flickering has also been experienced after successful installation when some customers have used the product. Opt7 are well aware of this issue and will even send capacitor plugins for free if you let them know you are having trouble.

This is a frustrating problem you should be aware of before you spend money on these because you won’t know if your car is affected until they’ve been installed and then you’ll have to wait the additional time it takes for Opt7 to send you the additional components.

Although we are not suggesting this should be a deal breaker, it would have been nice if Opt7 had included these capacitors as a standard in the kit from the word go.

Make Sure They Are Compatible with Your Car

Regardless of the lighting your car is currently using, these OPT7 LED headlight should work in it. Though it is obviously important to check that your brand and model is listed in the compatible list.

OPT7 Review Summary

So, should you buy this OPT7 LED Headlight kit? Well that depends on whether the possible downsides are enough to look past to benefit from a kit that won’t take a few minutes to light up whenever you turn the engine on, like HID lights are known to and the nearly natural looking sunlight illumination they provide.
